As a rule it’s pretty rude to interrupt someone else’s scene at a club, however it’s pretty obvious here that the dom holding the whip isn’t avoiding the kidneys, something that can cause permanent damage.

If it helps, you can always try finding a local munch first? They’re usually like at a cafe or something, from what I understand, basically as a way to just get to know the local scene folks. So you wouldn’t feel pressured to like JOIN into anything and it could help you feel more comfortable or figure out what you’re interested in? It varies from munch to munch, but many of them have a rule against trying to find other partners, so IDK how that would influence your choice, but it’s good to know.
There’s also various websites you can join to chat to people first- Fetlife is like facebook for kinky people!
If it helps, I know plenty of shy, inexperienced and older people who are into just this thing. ^_^ One thing to remember is that kink is NOT just for young, conventionally attractive white people with a lot of money.
One easy, low risk way to do it is to do just as Tab said and join Fetlife, and from there ease into going to munches (social gatherings for people who are kink-minded) and meeting people.
Some podcasts that helped me when I was thinking about joining the scene – Erotic Awakening by Dan and dawn, The People of Kink by CrazyHeart, and PolyWeekly by CunningMinx. I hear Masocast and The Rope Cast are good too, I just don’t have enough time to add any more to my list lol. Oh, also submissiveguide.com is a great resource for both sides of the slash.
There’s no such thing as too old for kink! I’ve heard of 78-year-old rope Masters still rigging in public dungeons, and there’s tons of groups on fetlife that cater to newbies, no matter their age.
Actually, it really can be as easy as showing up to a club. That having been said, it’s much easier if you have someone you can trust to show you the ropes. Fetlife and OkCupid have worked really well for me in the past in meeting people into the lifestyle, or if you’ve got a little more cash to introduce yourself, a kink convention can be better for face-to-face meetings. Just be careful though; there are definitely predators out there who will take advantage of newbies. Read up, do a lot of research before hand and make sure you know when to tell some wannabe dom to leave you alone.
A little caution is definitely your friend here. Know yourself, and know whether you can say no (or yes!) when you need to.
