Fun fact, James would actually be more likely to go to jail than John if it came down to it. The upper classes were supposed to set an example to their lessers and homosexual impulses were considered an affliction of the wealthy. A beardy man like John with both children and a record of going to church every week would have been likely considered to be doing it against his will/ out of duty to his unshaven, effeminate employer.

And honestly even while they’re arguing, somehow their relationship is still adorable. So good job on that “still wanting people to want them to be together at the end” thing.

In Morning Ablutions (chapter 2), Jefferson shaves James’ face while he’s bathing him. So yes, he is shaven hehe =P
I like how this is now getting into the complications of the power dynamic between the two of them. The focus is so often on the sexual side of things where John is dominant and James is submissive, but now we’re seeing their professional dynamic, but also seeing how James doesn’t fit the stereotypes of a submissive in everyday life. James can be fierce and I enjoy seeing that. Just because he’s submissive during sex doesn’t mean he is in life. That’s something that people seem to forget is possible.
