It’s so true; most children who are molested are abused by someone they know, someone they and, usually, their family knows. Often someone *in* their family. Stranger danger is real, but not as dangerous, in sheer numbers, as friend/family/caregiver danger. And often, it happens in just this way: the child is lulled into a secret, special relationship with the abuser, and either doesn’t realize they should tell, or is threatened into not telling anyone about what’s happening.

    Poor Jamie.

I don’t know how I feel about portraying the molester as a monster. I mean, I get it, but also it spreads this idea that they are not human, when in reality, they can look just like anyone else. (That said, I do love literally everything else about kaox komix, and this panel)

I get your point. You can’t tell who’s a pedophile just by looking at them.

Realistically, how old was Jamie here? Based on the timeline set by Alex Murphy, Jamie probably met Murfs at age 7 or 8. Jamie could be anywhere from 3 to 7. It’s possible that Jamie remembers what this guy looks like, but it’s more likely that he doesn’t. Especially if his mind tries to block these memories.

Stylistically, I think it works well. Tab plays with the creepy, drippy, tentacle-filled blackness to show how much this experience permeates the rest of Jamie’s life. The thick panel borders in the pages with his mother. This is where graphic novels truly shine. Plus, as Jamie says, this is his story and it doesn’t revolve around being abused; it’s just part of the overall story.

yeah but they are still irl monsters, once someone crosses that line that’s it, no redemption for someone who makes the choice to do that to a child, there’s a reason why pedos ‘have’ to be separated from the general population in prisons, otherwise it’s a slaughter
