this is such a disgusting comment. did you not read his whole story? if i’m honest, this comment from him seems extremely out of character. After all, he was the one that helped charlie come out of her shell and stood by her as she felt more comfortable with being the girl she was to the world.
This page really felt like it was forced to show growth from jamie, but i dont think it was needed. Instead, Tom should’ve said something like “This doesn’t make you gay, you know that right?!” in a prickly tone. Jamie could’ve given his same response to show that he already knows that. This would’ve been MUCH more in character for Tom. Because prickly asshole-ish behavior comes from a place of protecting charlie and other minority groups/his friends from bullies.
Anyway, the transphobia from this comment reeks, even if it is from 2015.
Oh it absolutely does. I think it’s meant to demonstrate that Tom is COMPLETELY incapable of reconciling the Jamie standing in front of him with the homophobic asshole he “knows” – so he’s trying to rub Jamie’s face in the “contradiction”, except there is none, because Jamie has already been processing and reconciling his feelings for a while now. And, Tom has previously been shown to be someone who charges in without thinking – so I don’t think it’s out of character for Tom, just an example of Tom really, really, REALLY sticking his foot in it. After all, this isn’t the first time he’s tried to leap to someone else’s defense and ended up hurting them in the process
